Turnbuckle Talk: Rachael Ellering

Welcome back to the Heel/Face Christmas countdown special! There are only 11 days left until Christmas and today we get to talk to a very special guest, the amazing and awesome Rachael Ellering!

Rachael will be competing this Saturday at Wrestle Circus against Christi Jaynes, who is trying to become the very first women’s champion (The Lady of the Ring champion) at this event. Rachael is also the daughter of the legendary Paul Ellering and she has wrestled for numerous wrestling promotions, including WWE/NXT and ROH. She reveals quite a bit about what people don’t know about her, her inspirations, what her favorite cheat meal is and lots more. Learn more about Rachael in our special interview that she was nice enough to do with us below!

H/F: At what age did you begin watching wrestling?
RE: 16. Contrary to most generational wrestlers, my dad did not let us watch or go to events. I discovered Trish vs. Lita from 12/06/04 main event of RAW on YouTube and was hooked. I knew that I had to do this; it was everything I loved and everything I was good at all in one package and I was hooked from that moment on.

H/F: Where did you begin your training and who did you train with?
RE: I trained with Lance Storm at Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary…Alberta, Canada. It was the best decision I’ve ever made as Lance is the best trainer in the world. He became not only my coach but role model and family as well.

H/F: How long have you been in the wrestling business?
RE: My one year wrestling anniversary was November, 21!
H/F: Who are some of your influences or people that you look up to in the business?
RE: Initially I was hooked on Lita, Trish, Victoria, Molly Holly, Mr. Perfect, Eddie Guerrero, Edge. That’s obviously expanded as I’ve grown as performer and fan-I love Aja Kong, Manami Toyota, Muta, Rick Rude, Beth Phoenix. The list is a mile long. I live for wrestling and was a fan before I was a wrestler so I love any good wrestling!
H/F: What is your entrance music? Any reason for picking this song?
RE: Cut the Cord by Shinedown. It gets me amped for my match and I sing along during my entrance!
H/F: What is the name of your finishing move?
RE: “Holy Buckets” is the name for my TKO.
H/F: What are the name of some wrestling promotions that you have wrestled for?
RE: NXT, ROH, Shine, Queens of Combat, Resistance Pro, among many others!
H/F: What have you learned about yourself in your journey of becoming a wrestler?
RE: I thought I loved wrestling when I began this journey and I can honestly say I’ve never loved it more than I do right now. You learn so much working different people, crowds and places and I hope to continue that as I enter year 2 of my career.
H/F: What has been your favorite part of your career so far?
RE: I’ve met so many amazing people who will be lifelong friends, Lance who is like family to me, my boyfriend, and shared locker rooms with some incredible talent. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better first year-I’ve been so fortunate to have the opportunities I’ve had. I enjoy traveling and meeting the fans in each city and hope to just continue making waves and memories doing what I love more than anything.
H/F: Who would your dream match be against?
RE: I fell in love with wrestling because of Lita, so she tops that list. I could list tons, but her and Manami Toyota take the cake.
H/F: Other than the dream match opponent, is there anyone that you haven’t worked with that you would like to one day?
RE: SO many! I’m one year in so that list is still a mile long. Itching to work Deonna Purrazzo in 2017; she’s a phenomenal talent who does this for all the right reasons. Such a hard worker and genuinely good person so I hope to see her in there soon.
H/F: What are some of your goals for 2017?
RE: Work as many different people, places and crowds as I possibly can while learning as much as I possibly can. I also would like to double the amount of matches I had in year one so I’m shooting for 130!
H/F: Favorite cheat meal? Favorite type of movies?
RE: Love pizza with lots of hot sauce on top, cold stone creamery, anything red velvet! Will be enjoying lots of red velvet later this month on my birthday! As far as movies, I love a good rom-com but honestly just find myself watching wrestling and sports whenever I get down time.
H/F: What is something that not many people know about you?
RE: I carry Tabasco packets in my purse, I have 6 tattoos, my moms my best friend, I’m really good at karaoke(play Pat Benatar and I’m owning it)!
H/F: What are some of your favorite places that you have wrestled so far?
RE: Resistance Pro in Chicago where I won my first title, Minneapolis because my family got to see me do what I love for the first time, any Queens of Combat show because it’s such a great environment and locker room.
H/F: Bucket list of places you want to wrestle?
RE: MSG, Korakuen Hall, Target Center.
H/F: What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t wrestling?
RE: Watching wrestling 🙂 working out.
H/F: Finish this statement, if I wasn’t involved in wrestling, I would be doing…
RE: I’d be dead.
H/F: On December 17th, you have a match with Christi Jaynes at Wrestle Circus. What’s it going to take for you to walk away with a win?
RE: My absolute best which I plan on bringing every time I get in a ring.
H/F: Have you began watching some of her matches online?
RE: I take it match by match. I’m not overlooking my opponents I have in the days leading up to WrestleCircus but I’ll be showing up prepared and ready. (Authors note, this interview was conducted in November.)
H/F: Would you like to be the Lady of the Ring champion one day?
RE: Silly question, of course!
H/F: Do you ahve any words for your fans?
RE: THANK YOU and get ready for a crazy fun 2017!
