Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Zigger (No Disqualification Match)

zigglerVcorbin

The way WWE has booked Baron Corbin is the exact way they should book a heel Roman Reigns. Show up. Kick Butt. Leave. Don’t give a crap about what the fans think and show your disdain for them in your demeanor. <——TAKE NOTE CREATIVE! I got into a reddit war of words with a dude who thought WWE was misusing Ziggs and that they should just let him go. Thing is, they know what they have in Ziggler, a hard worker and a guy who can get over as a heel or face, and they trust him to work with the younger talent and help them get established. They trust him and it has shown in this feud. I was not a fan of Corbin during his NXT run and I was very hesitant when he won the AMBAR at Mania, but they have done right by him and this feud works. A solid match and Dolph will spot-monkey a few high spots. Corbin wins.

Winner: Baron Corbin.

-Joseph

While the story these two have been telling is slightly, well, boring… it’s working. Corbin continues to impress me with his acclimation to the main roster and placing him with a five-star worker like Ziggler is perfect. I’d love to see Corbin just squash the crap out of him quick and easy like, but it’s a pre-show match so I’ll expect the match to have some excellent high spots, especially with the no DQ rules, to get the crowd ready for the show. Corbin is still coming out on top though.

Winner: Baron Corbin.

-Jason

Yawn. I like both of these guys, but do we really need to see them wrestle for the six thousandth time? Ok, that was exaggerating a little but still. Their work is solid, but I think it is time for both of these guys to move on. There is a reason that this match is on the pre show and not the main card. Corbin will dominate and Ziggler will get his shots in here and there.

Winner: Baron Corbin.

Kalisto vs. Rusev (U.S. Title Match)

kalisto

Kalisto v Ry…Rusev….See what I did there? I almost typed Ryback and my first thought was oh look it’s not on the pre-show…yet. Turns out it’s Rusev who gets the “coveted” big-guy-facing-Kalisto spot and I expect this one to turn out way different than the previous encounters with that other “big guy”. This title has lacked momentum and I hope they don’t put it on Rusev only to have him feud with a returning Cena….again. Rusev is a great worker and the dude can go. I think Rusev wins this and Kalisto goes back to the Tag Team division which needs the Lucha Dragons, badly.

Winner: Rusev.

-Joseph

Again, the story between these two has been less than entertaining. But everything surrounding the U.S. Title has become lackluster and boring. And while we’re being perfectly honest, we all know whoever has the belt is just keeping it warm for Mr. Cena. Kalisto my friend, you’ve had a good run. But all things must come to an end. Rusev takes the title here and we’ll get America versus the foreigner again at Summer Slam. Meh.

Winner: Rusev.

-Jason

Borrrrrring. Good thing that Cena, Rollins and Orton are due back within the next couple of weeks. I’ll give credit to the talent that has held down the WWE while they are dealing with all the injuries and whatnot, but come on, Cena built this title up only to see it become a joke again. We might as well bring back the hardcore title while we are at it. I hope this match ends within 5 minutes.

Winner: Rusev.

-Jeff

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho (Asylum Match)

dean

Jericho should not win this match. As kookie as “Asylum Match” sounds, it is basically a cage with weapons around the top. Fans will be very disappointed if those weapons are used the same way the weapons during Ambrose’s ‘Mania street fight were. For those keeping score at home the total is: Very Little. Both of these guys are great in ring and Jericho needs to lose a feud and Ambrose is in need of a PPV win to gain some momentum back. Creative has done a great job of killing Ambrose’s hype, which I think has been done in order to make Reigns look more over. Jericho got a bizarre win over AJ Styles at ‘Mania and like I’ve said before his job needs to be to put over the up and coming new talent. I think creative gets it right and Ambrose gets the win.

Winner: Dean Ambrose.

-Joseph

So on one hand, I like the fact that WWE is trying to turn Ambrose into this hardcore, weapon wielding, D-G- A-F badass. On the other hand, I realize the last time we saw this was at WrestleMania against Brock Lesnar and it was arguably the worst match on the card. Again, the story has been so-so but heel Jericho is always puts on a good show and I’m hoping WWE actually lets them put a little “extreme” into this match. I doubt it though. Ambrose takes this one and hopefully ends this feud once and for all.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

-Jason

Much like what Jason and Joseph have said, this match doesn’t sound too promising. Ambrose definitely is in need of the win and it would be a solid one at that. If the weapons are involved heavily in this match, then it has potential to be good, if not, it’ll be yet another lame match on a card that is already lacking any “great” matches. Dean will go HAM with the weapons and get the win.

Winner: Dean Ambrose.

The New Day vs. The Vaudevillians (Tag Team Championship)

newday1

New Day are still the most over tag team on the roster and without Enzo and Cass being involved in this match, I don’t see the titles changing hands. The Vaudevillians are getting over way more than I ever thought they would but I don’t see them as the team to beat the New Day. The titles will stay on The New Day and we will get an awesome present in promos between them and the returning Enzo and Big Cass. New Day retains and that ain’t booty.

Winners: The New Day.

-Joseph

I have to believe it would have been Enzo and Cass in this spot had Enzo not gone down with the injury. But credit to the Vaudevillians, they have been killing it so far. I really didn’t think their gimmick would work on the main roster but it has and I’m digging it. Anything the New Day touches is gold and while I think they are hands down the best tag team in the WWE, I don’t think they need the titles. It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a title change here but I don’t see it happening just yet. New Day retains but the Vaudevillians are elevated to a new level.

Winner: The New Day.

-Jason

The New Day has been the best thing going in the WWE and I don’t see that stopping any time soon. I don’t like that they have been pairing the Vaudevillians with the Dudley Boys, but I get it. They needed something for Cass to do while Enzo recovers from the concussion. Speaking of Enzo, I expect him to return today and somehow cost the Vaudevillians this match, leading up to a feud with them. The Vaudevillians have been impressive in the short time that they have been on the main roster, so this match should be solid leading up to the interference by Enzo and Cass. NEW. DAY. ROCKS!

Winner: The New Day.

Charlotte vs. Natalya (Submission Match for the Women’s Championship)

charlotte

It is no secret that I love me some Natalya and I hates the Ric Flair. The fact that this is a submission match AND Ric is banned from ringside makes me very happy. This is a chance for Charlotte and Natty to show the WWE Universe what they showed the NXT crowd. That they can put on one hell of a match and have a decision that doesn’t involve old men in thousand dollar suits. This has huge potential to be the match of the night and I’m looking forward to a good one. I do not think this is the time to take the belt off of Charlotte. I think she wins on her own and this starts the separation of her and her father. Charlotte retains.

Winner: Charlotte.

-Joseph

And here we have our first contestant for match of the night. If you were lucky enough to see the work these two women did in NXT then you know they have the potential to bring the house down. Their matches so far have been a bit lackluster but I put most of the blame on Ric Flair hogging the spotlight. (Kidding…mostly.) I think the reason they have banned Ric from ringside, aside from the story line angle, is that they want to give these two the opportunity to bring the house down. I think they will. Charlotte will still walk out with the title around her waist and start to establish herself as a monster that does not need to rely on daddy anymore.

Winner: Charlotte.

-Jason

Much like Joseph, I am looking forward to this match as well. Finally Ric is banned and it will be an even playing field. A title change in this division is a little bit overdue in my opinion, but it’s hard to see the WWE giving the title Nattie, as much as I would like for that to happen. Be prepared for a great match with the potential to be the match of the night, no scratch that, I am going to say that it IS going to be match of the night. With all that said, I think Charlotte walks out victorious.

Winner: Charlotte.

The Usos vs. Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows(The Club) (Texas Tornado Tag Team Match)

usosssssss

That was entirely too many T’s for me to type. So was that. Mark me down for a “meh” on this one as well. I really like what they’re doing with the Club vs. the Family but I just don’t care about the Usos enough to enjoy seeing them beat Gallows and Anderson. And they will. And we’ll all boo and wonder where the last 15 minutes of our life went. Meh.

Winner: The Usos.

-Jason

The Usos v. The Club. The Club v. The Usos. Texas Tornado Tag Match. Tornado Tag Match. Nope, no matter how I say it, it just does not move me. The only matches that should have the words Texas Tornado in them is a match involving the late Kerry Von Erich. I, like many a fan, was looking forward to the emergence of the Bullet Club in WWE but I’m not liking what I’ve seen so far. This feud with the Usos has done nothing for their characters and I’m having trouble getting excited for this one. I think The Club wins and wins via dismantling. The only thing I can see making this match super over will be explained later.

Winner: The Club.

-Joseph

I’m hoping that the Usos are just fill ins for what is eventually going to be a Shield reunion. A Bullet Club reunion involving AJ Styles does not interest me. At all. We all know how I feel about Styles and I would rather have this group led by Balor. I expect the Usos to get in their high flying moves and the Club to do their power moves. Hopefully this match will be over sooner than later.

Winner: No one. We all lose for watching this match…. The Usos….. I guess.

-Jeff

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. The Miz vs. Cesaro (I.C. Championship Match)

KO

This would be amazing if it were two seperate matches. It has been mentioned on other blogs and podcasts and I totally agree, that Zayn and Owens don’t need a belt to draw hype. The chemistry between those two would be enough to power a small city for months. I could watch them wrestle over and over and I would still be excited. The Miz and Cesaro should be an IC match on it’s own. I’m still bitter about Ryder having a one day title run. I think Cesaro gets the win or the Miz wins by cheating. Either way we get a Cesaro/Miz feud and Zayn/Owens continues until a bigger pay per view. So I guess I’ll go with Cesaro because the Miz is not awesome.

Winner: Cesaro.

-Joseph

And now our second contestant for match of the night. Four guys who can just flat out go, yes, even the Miz. The story has been fantastic, probably the most entertaining in the WWE lately because there are multiple angles going on that revolve around the title. That being said, I don’t think Owens and Zayn need the title involved in their feud so we’ll remove them from the equation. I think it’s clear that the WWE wants to put the title on Cesaro but Extreme Rules seems like a minor show so I can’t see a title change happening here. The Miz will find a way to keep the title, leading to a feud between he and Cesaro while Owens and Zayn move on to do their own thing.

Winner: The Miz.

-Jason

Ok I lied earlier. This is going to be the match of the night. Final answer Regis. I would be happy if the Miz and Cesaro got knocked out cold and didn’t even participate. We all know that KO is the best wrestler in the WWE at the moment and he deserves that belt. But he doesn’t need it right now, not for his feud with Zayn. These two just need to feud for the rest of the year, then become a tag team next year. That being said, I don’t think either of those two win tonight, but I do see the title moving over to Cesaro. The feud between he and the Miz will continue and in my opinion, the only reason to keep it going would be to have Cesaro take his title away. Either way, this match will not disappoint on a lackluster card called Extreme Rules.

Winner: Cesaro.

-Jeff

A.J. Styles vs. Roman Reigns (World Heavyweight Championship)

roman

While I have loved watching the matches between these two, I’m really racking my brain as to what’s going to make this match different. Do the Club and the Family get more involved? We’ve seen that on Raw. Does Styles go full on heel? They’ve been teasing it for a few weeks now. Does the Demon, Finn Balor, finally debut? Doubtful. Does Styles find a way to take the title off of Reigns? Ha. That’s a good one. So I’m excited to see these two go at it again, I just can’t see what’s going to make it any different than what they’ve already given us. Something has to happen, right? Right? If Reigns just keeps beating Styles, then what’s the point of feud? Oh right, Roman doesn’t lose. Cue the boos!

Winner: Roman Reigns.

-Jason

Because this is going to be so predicable I am going to say Reigns wins. The Club interferes and beat down ensues with Reigns eventually taking them all out and standing tall in ring. Cue Music. That was rough and way too predictable. I am going to give you my fantasy booking. You deserve some excitement.
Reigns V. Styles(My Booking)
So Reigns and Styles have a decent match and as we near the ending The Club makes it’s way down to the ring. Circling like vultures. Reigns gets distracted and AJ hits the Phenomenal Forearm. We get a near fall. I don’t believe it. The Club climbs the ring steps and out run, not the Usos, Dean Ambrose. He jumps Anderson but is soon overpowered by Gallows and Anderson. Styles low blows Reigns and goes for the cover and Boom! Seth Rollins music hits and here he comes. He slides into the ring and hits a curbstomp on Styles. The Club jumps in and is soon taken out by the newly reformed SHIELD. Just as they are about to get Styles up for the triple powerbomb….CATCH YOUR BREATH…..ENTER THE DEMON…..and fade to black….One can dream…
Winner: Roman Reigns.
-Joseph
I’m still scratching my head as to why Styles is getting yet another title shot, but then again, there really isn’t anyone to compete with Reigns at the moment. No one that would be believable anyways. While Styles is a good wrestler, I just don’t think he is main event worthy in the WWE just yet and definitely not for the WWE title. Yeah I know, I’m just a Styles hater. Blah, blah, blah. But I’m right. What has he done in the WWE since the Rumble that makes him worthy of this shot? Lose to Jericho at ‘Mania? This will be yet ANOTHER match filled with interference from the Club and the Usos in a replay we’ve seen for weeks. I’m ready to move on from this feud. Or if not, at least give us Balor, give us Rollins, give us something different! Make the WWE great again!
Winner: Roman Reigns.
