Heel/Face Predictions: Payback

image

Kalisto vs. Ryback (United States Championship Match, Pre-show match)

Either the WWE has been doing a good job of keep these two off television or I just automatically tune out when they come on because I don’t remember seeing this match on Raw for a while now. Let’s be honest, it’s probably the latter. I don’t hate this match-up/storyline but it just isn’t doing anything for me. I like what they are doing with Ryback. I like what they are doing with Kalisto. But I feel like this has just gone on for too long. And since it has gone on this long, I smell a title change on the horizon. The Big Guy takes the win here, kicking off Payback with an (exciting?) title change.

WINNER: Ryback.

-Jason

Before I get into the real predictions can I just state how sad it is that for the second pay per view in a row the U.S. Title is on the pre-show. Cena did all that work for nothing. No one cares about Ryback and Kalisto could have been the next Rey Mysterio but nope. Bravo, creative, bra.vo. Rant over.

WINNER: We all lose here.

-Joseph

Soooooooooooo yep. This match is happening again with no real build up the first time and even less work towards the build up for the rematch. Just give Ryback the belt already and let’s move on from this.

WINNER: Ryback.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin

Well damned if WWE didn’t finally do something right. Baron Corbin did nothing but bore me while in NXT, but since coming up to the main roster, I find myself semi-interested again. Starting with the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, Corbin has been booked great. He’s looking like an absolute beast, isn’t getting THAT much mic time and is doing everything right in order to get the audience hating him. An opponent like Ziggler, the master of over-selling, is only making Corbin look that much better. Should be a relatively quick match to hide Corbin’s flaws in the ring. Entertaining, but short. Corbin adds another notch to the win column.

WINNER: Baron Corbin.

-Jason

I guess Dolph re-signed with the WWE to help put guys over now. I would have thought some sort of title run with the IC title was going to happen, but why should I think that? How dare I think that I know what I want, right? I agree with Jason on this match being short to hide some flaws but I too like the way Corbin is being booked. I’m looking forward to what else Corbin has on the horizon. Give him the win here and let his momentum keep on rolling.

WINNER: Baron Corbin.

Charlotte vs. Natalya (Women’s Championship):

I like the fact that Natalya is bringing out Bret Hart to counteract Charlotte having daddy Ric Flair ringside all the time, but still see Charlotte winning somehow. Anyone else tired of Charlotte and want someone to defeat her already?

WINNER: Charlotte.

-Carlo

After my last prediction of a women’s title fight, I had to burn Dallas to the ground due to Ric Flair….please don’t make me do it again. I’m talking to you, Creative. Charlotte and Natalya put on one of the best women’s matches of our time down in NXT and will be looking to deliver on this stage. Despite what some people will say, Jeff, Charlotte can be decent in the ring and Natalya has the skill and ring knowledge to carry her. I expect a back and forth battle and….oh wait….is that a leather jacket in the corner…with some purple shades? It’s The Hitman! Brett Hart will be in Nattie’s corner and he has already stated that he is only there as a favor to her. So he doesn’t want to be there and we don’t want Flair there. Who wants to put money down that we will see a half-assed “tussle” between them? Any takers? I expect more of the same from the Flair party and much like Pig Pen they will keep it dirty. Flair wins because of her daddy. Note to self: Buy matches and lighter fluid.

WINNER: Charlotte.

-Joseph

Once again Ric Flair has found a way to make himself the center of attention, starting with him telling Nattie to “kill yourself” on a Smackdown taping and following it up with some good ol’ general drunkenness at an airport. Couple that with the fact that Bret Hart has apparently done nothing but tell anyone who’s listening that he isn’t impressed with what the WWE is doing lately and that he really doesn’t even want to be at Payback and you’ve got all the makings of a fantastic match that is going to be overshadowed by the ghosts of WWE past.

These women are two of the most talented wrestlers on the roster and have a chance to steal the show. If you’ve seen any of their matches before then you know what potential this match-up has. Despite all the outside influences, I expect this will be a good one. What I don’t expect is a title change. Charlotte walks out with the belt still around her waist, probably with some help from dear old dad.

WINNER: Charlotte.

-Jason

While I do agree that Charlotte can wrestle, I still think she could use some polishing in the ring and especially on the mic. This whole Ric Flair angle is played out already and with his latest airport inncident, I don’t think he will be on WWE tv much longer. With that said, I expect this to be a solid match, nothing special, but nothing boring either. These two have done a great job in building up this feud and I think it continues into the next pay per view, without the old timers on the outside of the ring. I think we see a title change and a rematch at the next PPV.

WINNER: Natalya.

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho:

This should be an entertaining and fun match. Their promos have been pretty good but I just don’t see where this feud is going. I have Ambrose coming out on top.

WINNER: Dean Ambrose.

-Carlo

The only, ONLY reason Jericho is on this roster is to put over younger talent and make them look credible. Which is why the Styles loss at ‘Mania is so dang upsetting. (Don’t say a word, Jeff) Heel Jericho has been brilliant as he always is and Ambrose needs to get some momentum back after having it F5ed away. A win against a tough heel like Jericho would right the Ambrose Asylum ship and get Dean rolling again. I see no reason or need for Jericho to win and I hope creative sees that too. Ambrose wins with Dirty Deeds.

WINNER: Dean Ambrose.

-Joseph

Put me down for “meh” on this one. I love me some Ambrose. I actually like me some heel Jericho. But nothing they have done story-wise has caused me to invest an interest in this “rivalry”. It will be a good match but it feels like a placeholder for Ambrose while they figure out if he is going to be in the championship picture or not. I’m going with Dean on this one but after what happened at ‘Mania with A.J., I wouldn’t put it past the WWE to give Jericho a dirty win here. Hopefully not though. Hopefully this story ends here. But I doubt it.

WINNER: Dean Ambrose.

-Jason

While heel Jericho is fun and all, Dean Ambrose is better for business. Creative seems a little confused what to do with Dean, but I think he will move on to bigger and better things soon enough. But first he puts on a good match with Y2J. Unlike ‘Mania, Y2J does not pick up a win here.

WINNER: Dean Ambrose

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens:

How mad is Jeff right now that I put Zayn’s name first? Answer: Very.

I take back everything I just said. THIS is the show stealing match. Hands down. No contest. The story these two told back in NXT was better than anything the main roster has done in years and now we get to see it take shape in the big leagues. There’s nothing I’m going to tell you here that you don’t already know. They can wrestle. They can work a mic. They will leave it all in the ring. It’s going to be amazing. But there’s no way Zayn is going over in their first match. K.O. takes this one, probably by cheating or nefarious means, and will then lay a beating on Zayn after the match just so Sami doesn’t forget what happened back in NXT. Cannot wait for this one!

WINNER: Kevin Owens.

-Jason

Kevin Owens! Enough said.

WINNER: We all win with this match. But for real, Kevin Owens wins.

-Carlo

This match is the reason why Sami and Kevin were signed. Bringing this historic rivalry to the big stage is what it is all about and there is no love lost between these two. This is the match I am most looking forward to and I know they will deliver on every front. This is the Batman/Joker, Superman/Luther, Xavier/Magneto, Spiderman/Green Goblin of the WWE and man oh man I can’t wait to see what happens next. The first of several, and you know I mean SEVERAL, matchups between these two brilliant competitors is sure to bring the house down and steal the show. Zayn wins but Owens destroys him after the match setting up a grudge match on the next PPV.

WINNER: Sami Zayn.

-Joseph

Match. Of. The. Night! No words needed here. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

WINNER: Fight Owens Fight.

-Jeff

The Miz vs. Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship):

The Miz has now been relevant again after being just another filler for awhile, now with his wife Maryse by his side.. Cesaro is back wrestling again but can’t figure out what WWE has planned for him but I don’t see this rivalry going on too long. Miz with the victory.

WINNER: The Miz.

-Carlo

I’m so glad Zack Ryder is riding this huge wave of momentum into Pay….wait…what? Zack Ryder isn’t in this match? But he got a huge win at ‘Mania and now he’s getting the push he rightfully deserves. *Sobs* I will say that Maryse has added a whole new wrinkle to the Miz’s heel persona and it is working masterfully for those two. Being a huge Ryder fan, Woo, woo, woo, you know it, this match hurts me a little on the inside. The Miz is not the greatest wrestler in the world but he can go and I know Cesaro is a beast. It’s red carpet vs. black suit. A license to thrill vs a license to kill. I’m going with Cesaro picking up the win and becoming the new I.C. Champ.

WINNER: Cesaro.

-Joseph

So I’m still bitter about the short run for WWWYKI, but that’s neither here nor there. This has been a great way for Cesaro to return to the roster and should provide an excellent spring board for Cesaro to eventually climb up to the heavyweight title picture. Notice I said eventually there. This feud between he and the Miz has just started and factoring in the addition of Maryse, has been quite entertaining. Cesaro is eventually getting a run with the IC title, but it won’t start at Payback. Miz is walking out the champ, probably due to his wifey.

WINNER: The Miz.

-Jason

Poor Zack Ryder. Just when we thought he was going to be back on tv again and get one more push in before he leaves the company, POOF! All gone. Although I don’t really care for the Miz, I have to admit, they are doing solid work with this feud. I expect Maryse to get involved, but I think it backfires for them. The theme of the night continues and the title changes hands in this match.

WINNER: Cesaro.

The Vaudevillains vs. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady (No. 1 Contender’s match for the Tag Team Championships):

As much as I want Enzo and Cass to be the number one contenders, and you know they will eventually get there, I think the Vaudevillians will pick up the W with interference from the Dudley’s. Enzo and Cass work so well when they are chasing the gold and I think giving them a big feud with a strong heel team instead of going babyface vs babyface will build their credibility. I believe Enzo and Cass never won the NXT tag titles due to that fact. They work best when they are hungry. New Day is way too over as a baby for them to feud. Let Enzo and Cass score a win against the legendary Dudley’s and make them look even stronger. Vaudvillians win and we lose because we don’t get to see Woods and Enzo go mic to mic.

WINNER: The Vaudevillians.

-Joseph

You have to think if the WWE knew how hot Enzo and Cass would come in to the main roster, they would have been up months ago. Arguably the only two hotter debuts in recent memory have been Kevin Owens and A.J. Styles. (Yes, I’m putting them ahead of Sami Zayn.) But we can’t overlook the success the Vaudevillians have had in their debut as well. Count me in as one of the people who thought their gimmick would never work on the main roster. But it has, especially as heels. Both these teams are excellent workers and entertainers and have of course worked together many times before down in NXT. I’m putting this match in the category of possible show-stealers as I think it will be exciting and tell a great story. In the end, its Enzo and Cass getting the win leaving us all SUPER excited to see Enzo vs. The New Day on the mic. Straight fire!

WINNER: Enzo Amore & Big Cass

-Jason

Man this is the most difficult to deal with for me. I love Enzo and Cass and I think they are going to be successful in the WWE. I would love to see the Enzo and Cass and New Day promos, as I think they would be golden! But WWE won’t give the fans what they want to see and for some reason can’t have 2 babyfaces going at it. So for that reason, I think Vaudevillians will come out on top after Dudleys interfere and screw Enzo/Cass.. Hope I’m wrong though.

WINNER: The Vaudevillians.

-Carlo

My name is Jeffro Amore and I’m a CERDA-fied G and a bona-fied stud. And you can’t teach that! The guy who just predicted this match before me, that’s Big Carlo and he’s 6 feet tall. And you can’t teach that! Bada boom! Trillest guys in the room. How you doing?! Alright, now that this is out of the way, a Enzo and Cass vs New Day would be the best thing going in the entire wrestling world right now. They know it, we know it, everyone knows it and that’s why it is going to happen! I think this feud will go on for awhile and I will not complain about it. Give me Enzo and Cass vs New Day, all day, every day!

WINNER: Enzo Amore and Big Cass

Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (WWE World Heavyweight Championship):

Roman Reigns will get the victory, I just don’t know how. Will AJ Styles boys turn on him? Only time will tell.

WINNER: Roman Reigns.

-Carlo

I haven’t read what Jeff wrote yet but I’m going to bank on it being a slanderous piece of work totally trashing AJ. This will not be that. AJ Styles is phenomenal and the dude has worked his tail off to earn his spot in the WWE and in this match. Roman has worked his butt off too and it is surprising that people state he doesn’t deserve to be here. The dude worked for it and while I’m sure lineage played a part, it wasn’t the total cause. This match is predictable and can be summed up in two words: Bullet Club. I’m calling it in and saying the BC will factor in some how. It may go that they attack Reigns and cause AJ to be DQed or, and this would be a good one, they attack AJ for refusing their help and “not being who they thought he was”. This would lead to Finn Balor coming up and yes I’m gonng predict that every PPV until it happens. AJ and Roman will be filled with boos and boos and boos and boos…did they mute me? I’m gonna swing for the fences and say that despite all the odds against it, AJ wins! Book It!

P.S. Does anybody else miss Seth Rollins?

WINNER: AJ Styles.

-Joseph

The Bullet, errrr, Balor Club has landed! Not exactly what I think most of us were expecting, but Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have made a major impression upon entering the WWE. I’m still a little iffy with what exactly they are trying to pull off with this story or even if it working, but they’re here and that at least makes the snoozefest that is Roman Reigns a bit more interesting. The match itself should be good. Both these guys can work and A.J. makes anyone he works with look that much better.

Part of me thinks there’s still a chance they’re going to send Roman down the heel path. Gallows and Anderson could turn on A.J. and Roman would be the leader of one of the most dominate factions in the WWE. It would propel A.J. to the top of the babyface line and immediately get Reigns over with those of us who just can’t stand the fact that he’s going to be the next John Cena.

But there’s also the chance that Styles finally accepts the help of the Club, goes full heel on Roman and decimates him. This feels like more of what the WWE would like to do, hoping we all turn on A.J. and finally cheer Roman. Welp, that ain’t going to happen. Two things will happen though.

One: Roman Reigns is going to get boo’d out of the building, just like at Wrestlemania.

Two: He’s going to get boo’d out of the build with the title still around his waist. No way is WWE taking that belt off him. They’re going to force him down our throats til we choke. Just get used to it.

WINNER: Roman Reigns.

-Jason

Awwwwwwwww Joseph! Don’t you dare be sour! Clap for your World Heavyweight Champion and feel the powerrrrrrrrr! I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, I do not like AJ Styles. Not at all. While I’ll give him his credit, he just doesn’t go over with me. If he is involved with the reformation of the Bullet Club in WWE, I’ll be dissing that too. A Balor Club? I’ll be for that, but not with AJ. I think when Balor teased him coming to the main roster, he meant to say he was coming to Payback. I think Balor, Gallows and Anderson help Styles in the match and then attack him after the match after he tells them he didn’t want their help. Roman retains, but only because of outside interference.

WINNER: Roman F’n Reigns.

-Jeff

Also taking place at Payback is that Vince is supposed to decide who will control Monday Night Raw moving forward. Assuming Vince wants to keep the momentum going, he will stick with Shane. But we all know that Shane running the show is temporary and he will eventually leave to go back to his other businesses. Having the Authority running Raw is played out and I don’t know if Vince would want to lean that way. My feeling is that no decision is made here, but Vince sets up some sort of match, whether it involves Shane or not would be up to Vince I guess. My guess is that he lets Shane pick someone and then Stephanie will pick someone(obviously Triple H) and then they go from there. In the meantime, I think he leaves Shane in charge.
