WWE Payback Predictions

WWE Payback is set to take place Sunday May 17th from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. If you include the preshow match, the card has a total of 8 matches. Here are my predictions for how it will all unfold, feel free to leave your predictions in the comments section below!

Preshow match: The Mega-Powers (Curtis Axel & Macho Mandow) vs. The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) First off, let me start by saying that I think the whole reboot of the Mega-Powers (Hulk Hogan & Macho Man Randy Savage) is a complete waste of time and talent. We’ve seen this before and obviously Axel and Mandow are nowhere near the stars that Savage and Hogan were. The same could be said for the Ascension, we’ve already seen the Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) before and again Konnor & Viktor are not even in the same category  when it comes to talent. That being said, the kid inside me says that the Mega-Powers being back in some sort of way is pretty cool. That same kid also says he’s over the Ascension and the WWE has mismanaged them from the get go. I had really high expectations from them when they made the jump from NXT to the main roster but the creative writing at WWE has yet again dropped the ball.

Result: Mega-Powers win, but the Ascension dominate most of the match.

Divas Tag Match: Naomi & Tamina vs. The Bella Twins Some might argue that this match should take place during the preshow, others might like it on the main card. I have to say, I like how the WWE has repackaged Naomi as a heel and added Tamina to boost up that heel image. Lately it seems as though Naomi and Tamina have been getting the best of the Bella Twins, so look for them to get a little revenge at Payback with a little twin magic.

Result: The Bella Twins win after capitalizing on a mistake by Naomi.

Singles Match: King Barrett vs. Neville The guy who has picked up the most momentum recently is Neville and man can the guy pull off some great moves! “The man that gravity forgot” has been nothing but entertaining since stepping in a NXT ring and now an even bigger audience gets a chance to witness his awesomeness. I’m hoping the WWE doesn’t screw up his character like it has done recently with others. Fresh off his King of the Ring tournament win, Barrett looks to keep his reign of being King a victorious one. This should be an action packed match with lots of back and forth between the two.

Result: Neville wins clean after hitting Barrett with a Red Arrow.

Singles match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus At Extreme Rules Dolph beat Sheamus in a “kiss my arse” match, however, Sheamus never paid up and kissed his arse. Between then and now, Ziggler has teamed with Neville to face Barrett and Sheamus to keep both rivalries going and apparently save TV time for other shennanigans. It appears that WWE doesn’t really know what to do with neither Dolph nor Sheamus. I think these two, along with Barrett and Neville, will be involved in the Intercontinental Title match at Elimination Chamber. For now, they are involved in yet another meaningless match.

Result: Dolph Ziggler gets the win and collects on his arse kissing that he is owed.

Singles match: Bray Wyatt vs. Ryback Another guy who WWE seems to have no clue what to do with is Wyatt. The guy has main event talent in the ring and on the mic, but yet continues to get a roller coaster ride of a push. Ryback in my opinion is a mid level card guy at best. He’s not very good on the mic and looks very stiff in the ring a lot of times. The fued between the two seems like something the WWE pulled out of its arse last minute and makes no sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if a “bor-ing” chant broke out in this one, but you can put all the blame on Ryback for that.

Result: Bray Wyatt wins clean after hitting Ryback with two Sister Abigail’s.

Tag Team Titles match(2 out of 3 falls): The New Day(c) vs. Tyson Kidd & Cesaro While I like what the WWE has done with Kidd and Cesaro, I can’t say the same for the New Day. Big E and Kofi will be defending the titles, apparently any combination of the three can defend because I swear the combination changes from match to match. The New Day originally was packaged to be some sort of a reboot of the Nation of Domination and I thought that was a brilliant idea! Then we got this version of the New Day after a delayed debut and I couldn’t be any more disappointed. Until the full heel turn of the New Day happens, I will continue to check my Twitter feed while they wrestle. Hopefully they keep Cesaro and Kidd together for awhile as the chemistry they have seems to be legit.

Result: The New Day retain the titles after interference by Xavier Woods.

U.S. Title Match: John Cena(c) vs. Rusev Once and for all the Cena/Rusev fued will be over. Sad to say, I think this is also where we say goodbye to the Lana/Rusev relationship as well. It is rumored that Lana is currently training to become an in ring diva and no longer just a manager. The “face of the franchise” will probably hold onto the title for awhile longer before he gets his heavyweight title push again later this year.

Result: John Cena retains the title courtesy of Lana gift wrapping the win for him.

Main Event, World Heavyweight Title Fatal 4-Way Match: Seth Rollins(c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Randy Orton There is no way that Rollins can retain here, right? If he loses, Kane will be fired as the director of operations. Something tells me that this whole Kane/Rollins side fued is a bluff and on Sunday they will show the world. Even then, if Kane does help Rollins, they are still out numbered 3 to 2. What if I told you that by the end of the match, the numbers would be in their favor 4 to 1? Surprise, surprise! Just my thoughts.

Result: Seth Rollins retains after the Shield is reformed and they dismantle Randy Orton.

These are all obviously just my opinions/predictions and my cousins Carlo and Frankie can tell you that I have been wayyyyyy off in my predictions in the past! But that doesn’t stop me from making ridiculous predictions as this seems to make it even more interesting and entertaining to me! Let me know what you think about my predictions in the comments and don’t forget to make your own predictions. We can check back tomorrow night and see how many we got right! Enjoy Payback!
